Why check the page before running ads
Advertising sends more visitors to your book page. If the page does not convert, more visitors can simply mean more wasted spend. Reviewing the page first gives every visitor, paid or organic, a better chance of becoming a reader.
1. The cover at thumbnail size
Most readers meet your cover as a small image. Check it at that size next to top books in your genre. Can you tell the genre at a glance, and is the title readable?
2. Title and subtitle
They should tell readers what kind of book this is. For non-fiction, a clear subtitle often states the promise or the audience.
3. The description
Open with a hook, show the stakes and end with a reason to read. Our guide on writing a book description goes through this step by step.
4. Categories
Choose the most specific categories that honestly fit your book. Rules on how many you can select change, so check the current KDP help pages.
5. Keywords
Think about the phrases a reader would type to find a book like yours. Retailer search suggestions are a useful clue. Avoid repeating words already in your title, and check current KDP guidance on keyword fields.
6. Author page and series links
Readers who like one book look for more. Complete your author profile with a short bio, a photo or brand image and all your books, and link series so readers can move to the next one.
7. The first pages and early reviews
Many readers sample the opening before buying, so make it grip. Invite honest reviews from real readers, for example through a reader team. Never buy reviews or write them yourself, which can put your account at risk.
Common questions
What matters most on an Amazon book page?
The cover, title, description, categories, keywords and reviews work together. A weakness in any one can reduce how many visitors become readers.
Should I run ads before fixing my page?
Usually fix the page first. Ads work best when the page is already clear, well targeted and convincing.
